It’s a new year already… doesn’t time fly?! With the new year comes a fresh chance to start over, set new goals, and be intentional about how you want to live. It’s also an ideal time to reflect, express gratitude, and sit with your feelings. To help you do all that, new year journal prompts are a great thing to have handy.
Today I wanted to share some of my best new year journal prompts with you. I hope they inspire you to think, plan, dream, reflect, and get excited about the past year and what’s to come in the next year.
Why now is a great time for journaling
The new year is here and with it comes plenty of excitement, goals, and ambition for what’s to come. As we step into a new year it’s the perfect time to start a new journaling habit or rekindle an old one.
Journaling now can help you continue your habit throughout the year — especially if you get off to a great start. We’re often thinking about New Year’s resolutions, setting new goals, and moving forward in life. That’s why it makes perfect sense to get journaling now.
Why journal prompts are so useful
When you want to create a new journaling habit or revive an existing one, it’s best to make things as easy as possible. That’s where journal prompts come in. These handy writing prompts can help you jump straight into self reflection and writing, without wondering what to write about.
With these new year journal prompts, you can skip the hard thinking stage and get straight to journaling your thoughts, goals, ideas, and plans for the new year. I love using journaling prompts to help me feel inspired when I get stuck, to surface new ideas I wouldn’t have thought of, and to prompt me to keep going if I’m finding the habit hard to stick to.
How to use these new year journal prompts
There’s not a lot to using these new year journal prompts. All you really need is these prompts, some quiet space for thinking, and somewhere to write out your journal notes and thoughts.
Here’s how I like to prepare for a journaling or goal setting session:
- Clear some time in your schedule
- Find somewhere cozy and comfortable to sit, think, and write
- Grab your favorite notebook, bullet journal, or app and something to write with
- Make a delicious hot drink to sip while you journal
You don’t have to do these things, but I wanted to share these ideas in case you want to turn the simple habit of writing in a journal into a cozy, calming ritual or routine. If you’re totally new to journaling, you might also like my journal prompts for beginners.
