Why Spring is the perfect season to inspire your self care habits

If you want to focus more on your own self care this year, there’s no better time to work new things into your daily routine or weekly schedule than Springtime. Warmer days, brighter evenings, seasonal celebrations, and anticipation for the year ahead can all encourage us to find new self care activities to try and love.

Spring is the perfect time to jump into some fresh new self care habits, routines, and activities. I love how energized I feel at this time of year, and my mental health and overall wellbeing are also better than usual — I hope that’s something that you feel too. If not, there are also lots of calm, self care tasks you can accomplish with low energy levels too.

32 of the best Spring self care ideas

I love the idea of leaning into self care and healthy habits more now that the days feel longer, brighter, and more full of things to do. These are some of the best self care ideas and activities for Spring. Take a look through the list and see what jumps out at you!

1. Bring out your Spring wardrobe

It’s time to say goodbye to your Winter wardrobe and welcome out some of your new seasonal favorites. Look for brighter colors, neutral tones, and clothes that feel light and effortless to wear as part of your daily life wardrobe.

2. Do some light Spring cleaning

If a big house clean has been on your to do list, now’s the time to tackle it. Make your Spring clean part of your self care routine by thinking about how great it’ll feel once your home is tidier, cleaner, and more organized.

3. Take up a new hobby

This time of year is great for starting a new hobby or indulging a new passion or interest. Start a blog, join a local community, go running again, embark on some DIY projects, or find another hobby that lights you up.

4. Write a Summer bucket list

It may be Spring now, but Summer is just around the corner. Sit down and write a list of all the things you’d love to do, achieve, or see when the next season rolls around.

5. Head to your local farmers market

With the weather better than before, now is the perfect time to head to your local farmers market to pick up some delicious fresh produce or fresh flowers. Enjoy it as it is, or look up a tasty recipe that uses your fresh ingredients.

6. Declutter your kitchen

If you want to get a head start with some decluttering, why not start by decluttering your kitchen? It’s a space you use often, so seeing it all organized will give you a great mood boost whenever you go to grab a drink or make meals.

7. Take a social media detox

Enjoy a break from social media for a few hours, a day, or the whole weekend and enjoy some of the things you used to do. If you want to take it a step further, use this moment to declutter your digital life too — especially if you’re heading towards burnout.

8. Go for a walk somewhere new

Head outside to enjoy a scenic walk somewhere you haven’t been before. Take in the fresh air, enjoy the views, and take a moment to embrace the simple pleasures in life. I love going on a nature walk and looking at all the seasonal changes!

9. Buy a new house plant

If you love keeping house plants, maybe it’s time to add a new one to your collection. Visit your local nursery or garden center to pick up a new indoor plant to join the family.

10. Organize your makeup collection

Sit down, get all your makeup and skincare out of the drawers, and get organized. Sort through to find things you love, and donate or recycle what you don’t. I love a clear makeup organizer — it’s so much easier to see what you have so you can create fresh looks on a day-to-day basis.

11. Refresh your home with Spring scents

Bring some fresh Spring scents into your home with the help of Spring flowers, essential oil diffusers, candles, wax melts, and more. Choose a soft floral scent, or one that reminds you of freshly washed laundry, for the ultimate in Spring coziness.

12. Create a vision board

If you love to plan and dream up different goals and wishlists, a vision board might be perfect for you. Take some time to create a self care vision board to help you reach everything you want to achieve this year and beyond.

13. Try a lighter skincare routine

With the move from Winter to Spring, your skin no longer has to worry about the harsh winds, so you can swap out your heavier moisturizers for something lighter. Give your skin a fresh start and change up your skincare routine so that it suits this season better.

14. Read some positive affirmations

The way we talk to ourselves can have an impact on how we feel. Set yourself up for a great day, week, and season by reading some positive affirmations out loud. You could even write your own versions to reflect on in the future.

15. Create an upbeat Spring playlist

Have some fun putting together a lively, refreshing playlist for the new season. Take a look at these songs to feature in a Spring playlist, or create your own in Spotify.

16. Try a new workout class

Create a new habit or routine around exercise, or swap your current favorite class for a new one. Use this as an opportunity to expand your interests and see what else you might enjoy. This is a great physical health self care idea, and one that you can tailor to your needs or schedule.

17. Cook a nourishing seasonal recipe

Cooking a new recipe in Spring feels like a joy. There are so many delicious ingredients in season. Take inspiration from what’s around you and cook one of these seasonal Spring recipes.

18. Plant some veggies

If cooking up a seasonal dish has inspired you to explore gardening, try planting some veggies. Read through this guide on how to get started with a vegetable garden for tips — it’s suitable for beginners!

19. Start a savings pot

Spring is a great moment to be spending time thinking about your future goals and putting money away towards them, if you can. Maybe it’s time to start a savings pot for something you’d love to buy or experience?

20. Enjoy your morning coffee outside

If it’s a beautiful day, brew your coffee or make a cup of tea and take it outside to enjoy some of that gorgeous Spring sunshine. Listen to the birds, feel the fresh air, and enjoy taking a moment to yourself.

21. Have a self care day

If you really want to jump in with self care, why not plan a self care day? A self care day is where you dedicate all (or most) of the day to slowing down, resting, and taking care of yourself — so you can feel more joy, make more progress, and reset your mind.

22. Restyle a room in your home

I love a mini makeover! If you do too, maybe schedule some time to revamp one of your spaces this Spring. Make your bedroom feel super relaxing, cozy up your living space, or add some smart storage to your kitchen to keep it organized. This is one of my favorite self care tips ever.

23. Host a mini celebration

Spring is the perfect time to plan a party. Whether you celebrate Easter or just want to host a dance party or house party for your loved ones or close friends, make the moment special with themed decor, delicious food, and fun party games. Hey, you could even plan a self care party!

24. Dance in the rain

It may sound cliche, but maybe it’s time to get outside and feel the rain on your skin. Sing, dance, or simply go for a walk to embrace that refreshing feeling. While I love that warmer weather, there’s just something about being in the rain that feels so Spring!

25. Go for a picnic somewhere scenic

Spring often brings us beautiful weather, so pack up a picnic and take it somewhere to really enjoy it. Head to a local park, eat by the riverside, or drive to the beach to take in the views and slow down a little.

26. Act like a tourist in your hometown

Imagine you’re a tourist for the day and explore your hometown or city like a new arrival would. Go somewhere fun for brunch, take a guided tour, browse the shops, and enjoy dinner and drinks with someone special.

27. Write a gratitude list

Sometimes one of the best ways to feel grounded and motivated to chase our goals is to practice gratitude. A great way to do this is to write a gratitude list or keep a gratitude journal. Note down what you’re thankful for, reflect on it, and feel inspired to continue on your journey.

28. Go for brunch with a friend

If it’s been a while since you spent time together, schedule a brunch or lunch date with a friend or family member. Try somewhere new or go to your favorite place, order what you always do, and enjoy that nostalgia and the social connection.

29. Have an at-home spa day

Going to the spa every month isn’t achievable for most of us. Instead, host an at-home spa day and give yourself a manicure, pedicure, or facial and enjoy a long soak in the tub.

30. Watch a lighthearted movie

Get cozy in front of the TV and put on one of your favorite lighthearted movies. Maybe that’s a romance, comedy, or even a family film. Whatever it is, enjoy every moment of it.

31. Add more color to your plate

The Spring season is the perfect time to get inspired to add more color to our meals. Here’s a handy eat more color infographic to give you some ideas on how to add more of the rainbow to your dinner plate.

32. Get ice-cream

This last one is super simple, but one of my favorites. Take a trip to the beach or into town and order your favorite ice-cream in a cone or tub. Add all the sprinkles and toppings you want!

Add more self care into your life this Spring

Self care isn’t just for Spring, but it’s a wonderful season to help kickstart some positive new habits and routines. I hope that the list of ideas above helps inspire you to add some more self care into your everyday life, or create space for a special self care day to give back to yourself.
