Self Care Lifestyle

Ever wanted to send someone a thoughtful gift, but not sure what or how? I think self care boxes are the ideal gift to send to friends, family, and loved ones. You can buy a ready made box focused on self care, wellness or mental health, or build your own full of little treats you know they’ll love.

In this guide you’ll find great reasons to send self care boxes and how to make your own.

What is a self care box?

Think of a self care box as a little gift for someone designed to help them relax, feel refreshed, and take care of themselves. It’s a box full of little pick-me-ups, goodies, and self care ideas for them to enjoy.

A self care box is often a small, letterbox gift. This means your gift recipient doesn’t have to worry about being available to take a delivery, and won’t need to collect it if they’re not in. Instead, it’ll arrive through their letterbox for them to enjoy a little dose of mindfulness, self love, or pampering when they can.

Why a self care box is a great idea

A self care box is a lovely way to let someone know you’re thinking of them. Maybe they’re going through a tough time, are struggling with multiple demands, or often put others before themselves.

Sending them a self care box makes it easier for them to stop and take time for them – without having to worry about buying things or finding them around the house.

Self care boxes also make great gift ideas for friends, family members, and loved ones. A pamper box or me-time box is perfect for birthdays, new parents, people starting new careers, or achieving a fun milestone. If you run a business or are a freelancer, they also make ideal client welcome gifts.

How to create your own self care boxes

Making a self care box can be lots of fun. It’s a lovely, thoughtful way to let someone know you care about them. If you’re ready to get started, here’s a simple guide to help you plan and put together a self care box as a gift.

1. Decide on a theme

While you don’t have to have a theme for your self care box, it can be a great way to help you find the perfect things to include. Think about what the recipient loves, what their situation is, what they struggle with, and what their goals are. All these things can help point you in the right direction.

Your theme could be focused around one of their interests — like space, cats, or reading. It could focus on one of their needs — like physical wellbeing, mental health, or self love. You could choose one of their goals and create a box to support it — like personal growth, career moves, or finding themselves in a new city. Whatever you choose, it’s a fun way to help you create a themed box that they’ll love.

2. Choose some products

With your theme in mind, you can start picking out the perfect products to feature inside the self care gift box. Finding the right products might take some time, but that’s part of the fun and joy that goes into handpicking a gift for someone special.

Use your theme and the recipient’s interests to guide you towards the right products. If you’re not sure what to include, I’ve shared a list of great potential products right after this section. You can also include things like a handwritten note or a card of encouragement too.

3. Package things up nicely

One thing that I love about putting together your own self care boxes is that you can package, wrap, and style it how you like. This means you can go wild with bright wrapping paper, tissue paper, and gift wrap that you know they’ll love. You could also keep things super minimal and eco-friendly, if that’s more your (or their) style.

This freedom means you can have some fun and really take care over the way your box is packaged. This is another way to show your love and appreciation, and make turn the act of giving into a self care activity for you too as it can bring you a sense of joy.

4. Mail your self care box to the recipient

With everything packaged up and ready to go, the last step is to mail the box to your recipient. Take your parcel to your local store or delivery office for it to be mailed out to the special someone, and wait to hear from them that it was well received.

If you live close by, you could drop the box off in person instead of mailing it. This is a super sweet way to surprise a friend or loved one with your thoughtful gift. If it’s a birthday gift, take it along to their celebration along with a handwritten card or a bunch of flowers.

What to put in your own self care boxes

Want to create and send your own self care package? What a lovely idea, and a sweet way to create a thoughtful personalized gift!

If you’re not sure what to include, here are some great feel-good product ideas that you can pick and choose from:

  • Candles, tea lights, or wax melts
  • Face masks or eye masks
  • Beauty products
  • Skincare samples
  • Bath bomb, bath salts, bubble bar, or bath soak
  • Aromatherapy oils
  • Handmade soap
  • Pens or pencils
  • Small notebook or diary for journaling
  • Sticky notes or stickers
  • Washi tape
  • Socks
  • Gloves
  • Herbal teas, speciality coffees, or hot chocolate
  • Savoury snacks
  • Sweet treats – like chocolate or sweets
  • Positivity or affirmation cards (you could print out and include my mindfulness affirmation cards)
  • Voucher for a spa day or relaxing experience
  • Mini board or card game

Tailor your self care box to the person that’s receiving it. If they adore a long soak in the bath, a bath bomb or soak is perfect. If they’re active, a small accessory for their fitness pursuits is a thoughtful idea.

Don’t forget to include a handwritten note or card to let your loved one or friend know you’re thinking of them. You could even include some tips on how they can plan a self care day, or ideas on how to use the gifts within the box.
