5 Simple Self Care Ideas

Self Care Ideas

Our everyday can feel busy and chaotic at times. We’re rushing from one task to the next, trying to keep up with our to-do lists and deadlines. Sometimes we just need to slow down and take care of ourselves.

Here are five simple self care ideas to help you feel calm, relaxed and more balanced.

1. Get outside

If you can, try and spend some time outside every day. There’s something so refreshing about a cool breeze or the sea air, if you’re lucky enough to be close enough to experience it.

Step outside and head to somewhere quiet. Listen to the birdsong or look up at the sky and watch as the clouds move by. Take some time out from your busy day to be in the moment outdoors, even if it’s only for a few minutes.

2. Read a book

What better way to relax than to jump into a new book?

Get cosy on the sofa under a blanket or head into the garden to read in the sun and tick off two self care moments at once.

If it’s been a while, head to Amazon to look for inspiration on what to read next. There are new bestsellers every week, with new book launches all the time.

To get you started, here are a few of my favourite reads. They’re all non-fiction, as that’s what I prefer!

  • The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod
  • Hashtag Authentic by Sara Tasker
  • PR School: Your Time to Shine by Natalie Trice
  • Company of One by Paul Jarvis
  • Brand Brilliance by Fiona Humberstone

3. Listen to your favourite album

Music can really change your energy and mood, so pick one of your favourite albums or artists and hit play for an easy mood booster. Maybe even go wild and dance around your kitchen or sing your heart out. Live the moment and enjoy the music that’s brought you so many good times before.

4. Learn a new skill or hobby

One of the best ways to indulge in self care and create new growth for the future is to learn a new skill. Maybe you’ve always wanted to learn calligraphy, or you’d like to pick up some graphic design skills for a future career.

Dedicate at least some of your week to learning something new. This doesn’t have to be for profit or for gain, but if you can find something that’ll bring you an income now or in the future then even better.

Some of my favourite hobbies have become my career over time. My love for writing turned into a profitable blog and a copywriting career. Others, like playing video games, have stayed as a hobby.

5. Pamper yourself

I know it sounds cliché, but there’s a reason why so many self care guides mention a little pampering. If you don’t usually spend time treating yourself, a few extra moments applying a lotion or putting a mask through your hair can feel like a joyful luxury.

You don’t have to jump into the bath with a book and a lit candle, so do pampering your way. This might be painting your nails, trying a new face mask or trying out a new hair or makeup look. Try something that feels like a real treat, and find a way to work it into your routine more often.
