8 Simple Self Care Gift Ideas

Self Care Lifestyle

It can be hard for the people we love to take a step back and give themselves a treat. Whether it’s family, caring, work, or other commitments, it often feels like there’s something in the way.

This means that having a reason or prompt to pursue self care can be super helpful. If you want to give someone a nudge to treat themselves, try one of these self care gift ideas.

1. Journal

Journaling is relaxing and is super beneficial to our mental health and wellbeing. When we take time out to journal each day, our burdens will feel lighter, and we can feel happier too!

The great thing about journals is there are so many to choose from. You can get a blank one to doodle your thoughts in, one with dots so you can create a bullet journal, or a guided journal. Any will help you destress during your self care time.

2. Workout or gym subscription

Working out is great for your physical health and your mental health too. When you work out, your body naturally releases the stress you’re facing. Your muscles will loosen, and the tension will disappear. Cool, right?

So many people want to work out, but they don’t know where to start. Finding that initial motivation can be tough. Giving someone a subscription for working out will help them move in the right direction. If you know someone who enjoys the idea of working out and exercising, this would be the perfect gift!

3. Mindfulness app

No matter what stage in life you are in, a mindfulness app can help tremendously. If you already practice mindfulness, this will only encourage you to continue and go deeper into your meditation. If it’s a new concept, it’s a great introduction to taking time out every day to reflect and be mindful of what’s happening around you.

Even 5 minutes a day could change your life. You may find yourself better able to handle what life throws at you, and your mind will feel lighter. A mindfulness app is a great self care gift idea for someone that wants to improve their morning or evening routine, or add some calm to their busy life.

4. At home spa day supplies

We almost always associate the spa, getting a pedicure, and anything that involves being pampered as a treat. It’s also an amazing bit of self care. We love the idea of starting your own collection of spa day supplies, so that when a moment strikes you can sit down, pamper, and relax.

Here are some of our must have spa day supplies:

  • Nail polish
  • Body lotion
  • Body scrub
  • Bath bombs
  • Shower steamers
  • Dry brushes
  • Robe
  • Makeup
  • Haircare items
  • Lip balm
  • Gift card to a spa experience

You really can’t go wrong with any of these items! You can even find a variety of spa day kits that have these items together, or use this as the basis to create the perfect pamper day self care kit.

5. Tea

There’s something so calming about drinking a cup of tea. The warm drink in your hand and how it flows down your body, heating you up, is a great stress reliever and a lovely moment of mindfulness.

You can find stress relief teas or calming teas in stores, designed to further help you relax during your self care time. Always keep a box of your favorite teas on hand for a quick self care break when you need it. It might take some time to find the right tea for you, but when you do, stock up so there’s always some in!

6. Plants

Gardening can be really relaxing for lots of people. Even if gardening isn’t your thing, most people enjoy having a small indoor plant to take care of. It might seem like it’s adding more to an already busy and stressed person, but it’s usually quite the opposite. Having a plant to care for can encourage people to take more care over themselves too, as they build healthy habits.

If you are grabbing a plant for a friend as a gift, choose one that fits their lifestyle. If your friend is super busy, try a succulent. If your friend is sad, try a bunch of flowers to brighten their day. For friends that you know love the idea of plants but not the upkeep, don’t be afraid to get them a faux plant instead. They get the happy benefits of enjoying its presence, without the worry about watering it.

7. Coloring book

A coloring book is another excellent self care gift idea. Most of us love to doodle, especially when we can’t seem to think straight. Coloring, doodling, and art in any form are great for relaxing and calming your mind down.

Art therapy is used all the time and is very successful. If you are overwhelmed or know someone who is finding things a bit much, a coloring book or set could be a really thoughtful gift. Look for a coloring book that features characters or themes they love, so they’re more inclined to pick it up and get coloring!

8. Gift cards

Gift cards are always a really welcome gift idea. These are especially good for people who are hard to shop for, or if you know they’d just spend the cash on something practical.

If you know your friend well, get them a store specific gift card. Another great option is a self care focused gift card – like one you can use at a local spa, buy beauty or wellness supplies with, or spend on a mindfulness app or fitness subscription.

Most people don’t like spoiling themselves, but if they have a gift card to a place that will, they have a fresh reason to go and enjoy that pampering time.

Give the gift of self care to someone special

Self care is one of those things we often overlook, but it’s so valuable. Give someone a gift that encourages, motivates, and inspires them to choose a self care moment for themselves. Whether you gift art supplies, gift cards, or an at home spa day kit – you’re giving them something worth more than simply the product itself.
